From Day 3 onward, you can use the gems you earn from battle to buy weapon parts and ores from Gander the goose merchant to help with the weapon assembly. You must then craft the weapon of choice by picking a design to use, depositing ores to create the weapon, assembling the weapon, and then equipping parts to the weapon. One by one, soldiers will approach the forge and tell you which type of weapon they need. This then initiates the crafting part of the day, where you have to craft weapons for the soldiers. The day begins with Scout running ahead and then returning to the forge to tell Jacksmith which enemies he saw on the path ahead.
Each level constitutes one day of work and takes course over two parts. You play as Jacksmith as he manages his forge and crafts weapons for the soldiers he recruited to help him save Princess Liliana. Jacksmith and Scout, desperately needing the money, pack up their forge and set out to rescue the princess, but neither of them are warriors, so Jacksmith decides to rally some local fighting clans to join his cause, offering to provide them custom-made weapons in exchange for them taking care of Dudley's monsters. Shortly afterwards, King Plumpfeather offers a great reward for anyone who manages to rescue Liliana and bring her back to him. Using his magic Phoenix Staff and an assortment of elemental spells, Dudley raises an army of magical monsters and attacks the Lowlands where the royal family lives, and snatches Liliana right out of her castle. Meanwhile, in the ruins of an old castle beyond the icy Alpine Ridge, a lonesome rat wizard named Dudley is plotting to kidnap the king and queen's daughter, Princess Liliana, who he is hopelessly in love with.
However, despite Jacksmith's great blacksmithing skills, the job doesn't pay well. In the medieval Plumpfeather Kingdom, a talented donkey blacksmith named Jacksmith runs his own forging business with the help of his best friend and assistant, a dog named Scout.
